The dirt fairies were her idea (sort of)
They were invented on an ordinary night, in the middle of a bedtime standoff going nowhere fast. Ashley's oldest is spirited with an imagination so vivid that clocks (or bath time) don't stand much of a chance.
Instead of negotiating, she created a few small, mischievous creatures who show up when listening ears go missing. By meeting imagination with imagination, it infuses fun into everyday routine. The best part: it works!

Ashley Ladd is a mom of 3 and a believer in the everyday magic of childhood. She writes stories that turn ordinary moments (bath time, tidying up, brushing teeth) into little adventures kids can't wait to be part of. Delilah and the Dirt Fairies is her debut picture book, inspired by her own spirited little one and the magic that lives inside every “time to listen” moment.”
Outside of writing, Ashley is Director of Engagement and Culture, making organizations feel like places people want to be. It turns out that works about the same on a company as it does on a four-year-old — making magic out of the mundane.
